Vibia's Wireflow: A Constellation Indoors
When a room asks for a fixture that behaves less like a lamp and more like a night sky.
Some briefs arrive as a feeling rather than a specification. For a considered Delhi residence, the architect wanted the dining area to feel, in her words, like sitting beneath a constellation. Not a chandelier. Not a cluster of pendants. Something that read as points of light held in space, with the structure between them nearly invisible.
Drawing with light
Vibia's Wireflow was built for exactly this idea. Its fine electrified lines trace geometric figures in the air, with the light sources sitting at the vertices like stars, and the thin conductors between them reading as pencil lines rather than hardware. Switched on, the structure recedes and the points remain. It is less a fixture than a drawing suspended over the table.
The work, as ever, was in the restraint. Over-scaled, a constellation becomes a cage. Hung too low, it stops being a sky and starts being an obstacle. The composition was set to sit just within the peripheral vision of a seated guest, present but never intrusive, and dimmed to a level where the points glow rather than glare.
The most memorable fixtures are the ones you feel before you notice.
Layered beneath it, a quiet field of recessed light did the ordinary work of making the room usable. The Wireflow was left to do the one thing it does better than anything else: to turn a ceiling into a sky, and a dinner into something that happens beneath one.
