A Crystal Cascade for a Hotel Arrival

A hotel is judged in its first ten seconds, and the arrival hall does most of the judging. For a landmark Delhi property with a double-height lobby, the brief was singular: a fixture that would make the ceiling the reason people looked up, and the reason they remembered the room.

Scale is a craft, not a size

A statement chandelier in a volume like this is not simply a larger version of a domestic one. It has to hold its own against the height without crowding it, catch light from the windows by day and generate its own by night, and resolve into something coherent whether seen from the entrance, the mezzanine, or directly below.

Working with the craft of an Italian house, the piece was composed as a cascade of individually hand-finished crystal elements rather than a single rigid form. Assembled by hand, each element was hung to read as part of a falling gesture, so the whole appears to be in gentle motion even at rest. The eye never quite finishes counting, which is exactly the effect a grand arrival wants.

In a double-height room, a chandelier is not decoration. It is architecture you can see through.

Behind the drama sat the discipline. Concealed sources lit the crystal so that it glittered without glaring, the colour temperature held warm to flatter both stone and skin, and the whole assembly was engineered for a maintenance access that a busy hotel could actually use. The guest sees only the cascade. That it can be cleaned and relamped without closing the lobby is our concern, not theirs.
